About
The Barbados Diaspora Collaborative USA (BDC USA) grew out of the efforts of the late Prime Minister of Barbados David Thompson to encourage the Barbados Diaspora to expand its involvement in development activities and initiatives in Barbados.
In January 2010, the Barbados Cancer Association USA (BACA), Inc. promoted the idea of creating a US collaborative for just that purpose and pitched the idea at the annual meeting of leaders of US Barbadian organizations held at the Barbados Consulate General at New York.
BDC USA was seen as a vehicle to pool resources for greater impact given the large number of Barbadian organization in the US particularly in the New York region and US east coast.
BDC USA was incorporated in New York in August 2012 and was granted 501 (c) 3 tax-exempt status under the US federal tax code in 2014.
Its primary mission is to act as a vehicle and conduit for the support of projects that benefit the Barbados US Diaspora and Barbados.
